The Mountain of the Cannibal God aka La montagna del dio cannibale is an Italian horror film from 1978 from Sergio Martino. Starring Ursula Andress and Stacy Keach. The film has the other titles: Slave of the Cannibal God and Prisoner of the Cannibal God. It was listed in the UK as a video nasty due to it’s graphic violence.
Plot
Susan Stevenson (Ursula Andress) is trying to find her missing husband in the jungles of New Guinea.
She seeks the help of Professor Edward Foster (Stacy Keach). He thinks her husband might have headed for the mountain Ra Ra Me on the island of Roka.
The locals believe that the mountain is cursed, and the authorities will not allow expeditions there. Susan, her brother and Edward enter the jungle to search for the lost man.They have to encounter anacondas, alligators and tarantulas.
Then they meet another jungle explorer named Manolo (Claudio Cassinelli) who has been staying at a nearby mission camp, who agrees to join them in their expedition.
Then Foster reveals that he has come there because he had been on the island a few years previously, was taken captive by a tribe of primitive cannibals, and has only returned to wipe them out if they still exist. They have to face the Mountain of the Cannibal God…

The Mountain of the Cannibal God was filmed in Sri Lanka.
The film was banned in the UK for its graphic violence (mostly for its very real animal violence) and one of the infamous 72 video nasties.
Antonio Marsina looked so much like Helmut Berger (Salon Kitty) that the box for the DVD of this film even mistakes Marsina for Helmut Berger. Helmut Berger does not appear in this film.
The film was one of the original UK video nasties on the DPP 72 list. The film version was cut to remove all footage of animal violence.
Our view on The Mountain of the Cannibal God
Mountain of the Cannibal God is a bit different from other Italian cannibal movies like Cannibal Holocaust or Cannibal Ferox. It has more style and it is more like and old-fashioned adventure-movie like Raiders of the Lost Ark. But it has plenty of Italian sleaze like animal cruelty, nudity and graphic violence.
