Making of Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!
Russ Meyer gave the film its title because he claimed that a film title had everything in it when it contained speed (Faster), sex (Pussycat) and violence (Kill! Kill!).
For the cat fight scene in the film between Rosie (Haji) and Billie (Lori Williams), director Russ Meyer told them not to rehearse in order to add to the realism of the scene. The only precaution he took was giving them directions not to hit each other. Because the fight is real, you can see things such as genuine hair pulling and each woman throwing sand in each other’s faces.
The Spice Girls’ video for their song “Say You’ll Be There” was a pastiche of Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, a fact which was probably lost on their young fans.
Tura Satana said in a 2004 interview that, regardless of the nudity and sexual themes of his films and female characters, she always felt Russ Meyer was a feminist at heart. “He loved to make women look good. I have never seen any of the gals in his films look bad. And the men in his movies were always incapacitated in some way. They were either in a wheelchair or on crutches or short of a full deck. He liked to make women strong, make them feel that they were empowered.”
Quentin Tarantino had been in the process of writing a remake/reboot of the film, but it never got past the development stage.
Our view on Faster Pussycat!
Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! is a movie ahead of its time. On one side there it is a pro-feminist flick with lots of social significance, on the other side Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill! is a very deliberately made cult trash flic. A movie that glories in all things sex, violence and speed. With a cast of Turi Satana, Haji and Lori Williams it has a cast with lots of attitude and lots of cleavage. Something that Russ Meyer is known for. Exploitflix must see!
