Making of Frankenhooker

The film took 12 years to make.

The film cost 1.5 million dollars. Most expensive Hennenlotters at the time. But there were still troubles with the budget. The producers told Hennenlotter they had used up all of the funds for pyrotechnics during the exploding hookers scene. Hennenlotter replied: “How the fuck am I gonna film the lab scene?!” He ended up calling in a unlicensed pyrotechnician for the shoot. Lorinz recalled the guy finishing the setup and telling him “Don’t worry, it’s maybe safe.”

Lab scene

Bill Murray is a big fan of this movie, and publicly endorsed it around the time of its release.

The final shot -“the surprise ending!” per Lorinz required he spend five hours secured into the table and prosthetic body. He recalls having to pee into coffee cups.

Our view on Frankenhooker

Frank Hennenlotter, director of Frankenhooker already had his name made in the nineties with Basket Case and Brain Damage.
ElizabethBut he reinvented himself with this funny horrormovie. It’s original and fans of gore are being served as fans of nudity and comedy. When selected actresses didn’t want togo nude. Hennenlotter went to a nearby stripclub and asked ladies there if they wanted to do nudity and used them for the movie. It’s funny and entertaining and a true Exploitflix recommendation.
