Making of Vampyres
The screenplay is credited to Diana Daubeney, director José Ramón Larraz’s wife Diana. According to Larraz and producer Brian Smedley-Aston, she didn’t actually write a word of it.
The presence of the suspicious old man at the inn at the beginning is an allusion to the suspicious hotel clerk in “Daughters of Darkness”, another outstanding vampire lesbian cinematic outing.
Marianne Morris said in an interview with Mayfair magazine that she drank a bottle of Scotch to get ready for her lesbian love scene with Anulka Dziubinska. Then passed out right after they finished filming.
Marianne Morris said there were 20 crew people watching when she and Anulka Dziubinska stripped naked and filmed their sex scene.
Anulka Dziubinska was listed only by her first name in the credits.
Anulka Dziubinska said she met actor Sir John Mills at a cocktail party. She asked him for acting advice and he told her, “Do everything you’re offered, because everything you do will give you some experience!” The very next day she was offered Vampyres and she accepted it immediately, even though she was hesitatant about filming the lesbian sex scene.
Anulka Dziubinska said that after spending hours covered in fake blood, her hair smelled like peppermint for weeks afterwards.
