Making of Django
The film spawned hundreds of unofficial sequels. Some had incorrectly, and unauthorizedly, put the name in the translation title and other characters renamed it in order to cash in on the original. In Germany, the film was so popular that almost every Franco Nero western, and even random spaghetti westerns, bore the name “Django” in the title.
This movie was inspiration for Quentin Tarantino’s film Django Unchained (2012), abut it’s not a remake. Franco Nero makes a cameo appearance next to Jamie Foxx.
The scenes in the deserted western town were filmed in the Elios-Studios in Rome. Most of the sets were so old that they actually required an expensive renovation. To save costs, a smoke machine was used to hide the age of the sets.
Franco Nero was just 25 years old when he appeared in this film. Make-up was used to make him appear older.
Our view on Django
Django is a great Spaghetti Western. The original film that launched over 70 imitation flix and sequels. It was the inspiration for Robert Rodriguez’s El Mariachi and Desperado. The end shootout in the graveyard is the best. Recomended by The dploitflix!
