Notable scenes
Making of Shock Waves
There are actually eight actors playing eight different zombies in the film, although it appears that there are many more.
The wreck of the Nazi freighter where the zombies reside is the SS Sapona, a concrete-hulled cargo steamer that ran aground near Bimini in the western Bahamas during a hurricane in 1926.
The hotel in the film is an actual Biltmore Hotel in Florida that was shut down for a two-year period and was abandoned at the time of filming. Director Ken Wiederhorn paid $250 to rent the building for the shoot. The hotel was renovated a couple of years after the shoot and now charges significantly more than $250 per room, per night.
The zombies weren’t originally supposed to be wearing goggles but when extra Max Trumpton returned from recent glaucoma surgery in protective eyewear the director liked the ‘look’ so much he instructed the wardrobe department to make a pair for each zombie.
B-movie director Fred Olen Ray said this was the first film he was involved with. As a gopher and photographer. He said none of the other young crew knew who John Carradine and Peter Cushing (this was before Star Wars was released that year) were, but Ray was a big fan of both. Spending every moment he could chatting with them and ended up using Carradine in several of his films after he started directing.
John Carradine did his own underwater stunts in this movie.
Our view on Shock Waves
Shock Waves is an exploitation horror movie with a couple of special effects. The Zombies are actors in Nazi uniforms holding their breath under water. Not anything like the Shark fighting scene in Zombi 2! The cast has Brooke Adams from Invasion Of The Body Snatchers and The Dead Zone and veteran horror legends John Carradine and Peter Cushing. The movie turns out to be a good thriller so It is an Exploitflix one to watch!
