Plot

The film tells the story of a Caribbean island cursed by voodoo whose dead residents rise as zombies to attack the living.Sexy diver A scientist’s daughter journeys to the island after her father’s boat turns up abandoned in New York City.

Notable scenes

The scene where a zombi is fighting a shark is classic. The actor scheduled to fight the shark was unable to perform the day the sequence was to be shot, so the shark’s trainer was used instead. Ramon Bravo is realy encountering a shark here!
Zombie shark
There are various bloody scenes and Fulci is known for making these scenes very realisticaly with his medical background. One scene where a person‘s eye is gouged out slowly and painfully is one (not) to watch. In 1979 Zombi 2 was considered very extreme but also commercialy succesful.

Making of Zombi 2

The scenes in New York at the beginning and end were added later to make it more attractive for the American market and to cash-in the success of Dawn of the Dead.

The shark scene was filmed in a salt water tank and the shark was heavily sedated before filming the scene.
First they wanted Enzo G. Castellari to direct the film but he turned it down.

Our view on Zombi 2

In our opinion Zombi 2 is a great zombie film with great locations and atmosphere. The makeup and gore effect are great for its time. The story and character development are thin as expected but this is a classic that every zombie fan has to see. A real Exploitflix recommendation!
